Although the government has substantial programs to provide land and shelter for the poor, these people are expected to pay for a certain portion themselves. Often with inflation, the poor struggle to give their expected contribution resulting in homes that are unfinished or destroyed by the environment. We ask that the community decide how they can help each other improve their housing situations. When they decide what labour and resources they can offer, we provide materials for the construction. Occasionally, in extremely dire circumstances, we have constructed entire houses enabling families to replace their huts covered with plastic or cardboard with more appropriate shelter.
